PA CareerLink Fayette Wins LIHEAP Army Challenge

Posted on January 20, 2009

By assisting the public with the LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) application process in conjunction with processing Dollar Energy applications, the PA CareerLink Fayette became a winner in Franco Harris' LIHEAP Army Challenge 2008. A lunch with Franco was the reward for winning the challenge. On Monday, January 12, 2009 the former Pittsburgh Steeler Franco Harris surprised the PA CareerLink Fayette with a personal appearance. Franco was extremely gracious, not only did he allow his many fans to take pictures with him, but he took time to sign autographs for them as well.

The LIHEAP Army Challenge consisted of providing a monthly report of information on the number of applications processes and the ways LIHEAP was promoted. Another major reason why the PA CareerLink Fayette site was chosen as the site for Franco's visit was because of its connection with WMBS Radio via PIC Employment Training Supervisor John Evans, who hosts the PIC Connection radio show.

On November 14, 2008 Kathi Hull, PA CareerLink Customer Services Representative, was featured on the PIC Connection as a spokesperson for LIHEAP and other energy programs. All of these efforts helped to win the Frano's LIHEAP Army Challenge 2008 in December. Those invited to the luncheon included PIC representatives Pat Jones, John Evans, Sean Sypolt and Amy Poli; Goodwill of Southwestern PA representative Kathi Hull; Director of Customer Programs Compliance for Columbia Gas, Patty Turpin; Dominion Peoples Managers of Customer Support Services and Public Relations, Sadie Kroeck and Elmore Lockley respectively; and WMBS General Manager Brian Mroziak.
