Adult Work Corp Program in Fayette County
Posted on February 9, 2009
The Westmoreland/Fayette Workforce Investment Board has granted funding for PIC to operate an Adult Work Corp Program in Fayette and Westmoreland Counties. PIC is providing the laborers to cities, boroughs, townships, school districts and non-profit agencies interested in utilizing this program. Materials, tools and other necessary equipment for their projects must be provided. They are given the opportunity to submit a work project application to either LeAnn Bergman for Fayette County or Frank Zadylak for Westmoreland County. Work projects will be coordinated throughout the counties. Each Corp will consist of a crew chief and five laborers.
The Fayette Adult Work Crew started their first project on January 13th for Brownsville Area Revitalization Corporation (BARC). They prepared vacant space in town buildings to be available for lease. They performed a variety of tasks including painting walls, sanding and varnishing floors and stairs, remodeling and installing bathroom facilities. The crew finished up the BARC project, January 30th and will start on their next project February 2nd for North Belle Vernon Borough. It will involve painting the interior of the building, including walls, ceiling and doors and stripping, sanding and varnishing doors.
Through the Adult Work Corp Program, the individuals will learn and gain skills in industrial painting, carpentry, plumbing, dry wall, masonry, flooring, framing etc.
