Adult Work Corps Program in Westmoreland and Fayette Counties

Posted on March 10, 2009

As an update to an earlier story, the Private Industry Council of Westmoreland/Fayette, Inc. (PIC), with funding from the Westmoreland/Fayette Workforce Investment Board, is currently helping local boroughs, townships, school districts, and non-profit agencies in Westmoreland and Fayette counties complete work projects at their facilities.

After completing the project for the Westmoreland County Blind Association in Greensburg last month, the Westmoreland Adult Corps crew moved on to the Borough of Youngwood to complete a sign project. The project consisted of designing, constructing, assembling, and painting 28 wooden signs for the Youngwood Park and Pool, the Youngwood Cemetery, and the Youngwood Recreation Department.

According to John M. Storey, Jr., public works supervisor for Youngwood Borough, this is a project that may not have been otherwise completed if not for the Adult Work Corps program. "We're very pleased with the work they've done. This program was a great asset for the citizens of Youngwood Borough as well as its many gracious volunteers.", said Mr. Storey. "Crew Chief Dave Wilkerson commented that Mr. Storey and the Borough workers were very supportive of the project. "This was a great project and we had a lot of fun doing it", said Mr. Wilkerson. The Adult Corps crew includes Eric Fetter, Jack Tekavec, Paul Pampena, and Donald Warren. Mr. Warren commented that "it was a good learning experience for all of us".

The Private Industry Council is still accepting work project applications for consideration from cities, boroughs, townships, school districts, and non-profit agencies. The Private Industry Council will provide the work crew and supervisor, while the worksite will provide the materials and tools necessary to complete the project.
