The Private Industry Council of Westmoreland/Fayette, Inc. (PIC) is pleased to announce that it has been selected by the Westmoreland County Department of Planning and Development as one of three organizations to administer the Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP) in Westmoreland County. The HPRP program is being funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 with the funds intended to target individuals and families who are currently in housing but are at risk of becoming homeless (or experiencing homelessness) and need temporary assistance in order to retain/obtain housing. PIC will provide short-term rental payment assistance and overdue utility bill assistance and, if necessary, security/utility deposits and moving cost assistance to individuals and families who need to relocate. In addition to financial assistance, the PIC will offer case management, outreach and engagement, as well as financial literacy workshops aimed at providing participants with basic information and core skills necessary for building their financial future and understanding the importance of budgeting, saving and financial planning.
The Private Industry Council is pleased to have the opportunity to collaborate with the Westmoreland County Department of Planning and Development to offer this much needed support service to the residents of Westmoreland County. According to PIC president, Tim Yurcisin, "The funding provided through this program will enable PIC to address barriers and provide supportive services in an effort to develop a coordinated and comprehensive system for homeless prevention and enable participants to reach the ultimate goal of self sufficiency".
Program participants must meet required eligibility standards and be at immediate risk of becoming homeless to participate in the program. For more information, contact Shannon Kossar, Project Coordinator at 724-836-2600 ext. 222.
