New Adventures Summer Camp Now Accepting Applications
March 16, 2010
The New Adventures: Engineering, Manufacturing and Robotics Camp is now accepting applications for this summer. The camp will run Monday, July 12 through Friday, July 16. The camp fee is $20. The camp is for youth Grades 6 - 8.
Brought to you by the Private Industry Council of Westmoreland/Fayette, the camp is funded by the Bridgestone Firestone Trust Fund. PIC's purpose is to encourage young people in Westmoreland County to pursue careers in manufacturing. Operated and hosted by the Private Industry Council, this youth camp will serve students in the following school districts: Derry, Greater Latrobe, Greensburg-Salem, Hempfield, Jeannette, Norwin, and more!
In its third year, New Adventures will once again focus on science, technology, robotics, engineering and advanced manufacturing. Last year, the students built LEGO Mindstorm robots and pasta bridges, created chip packages and used solar ovens. The students also visited the California University of Pennsylvania's National Center for Robotics Engineering Technology Education. The Youth Staff is planning a lot of similar activities for this year.
