Alyssa LeCuyer Has Design on Future

Alyssa LeCuyerCongratulations to YouCUBE participant and Greensburg-Salem High School Senior Alyssa LeCuyer, who was recently accepted to the Bradford School of Business. In September 2010, Alyssa will attend and study graphic design.

Alyssa has been an active youth participant since June 2006. During this time, she participated in the summer programs touring such companies as Hamill Manufacturing, Westinghouse and Mitsubishi Electric. Alyssa also demonstrated LEGO robotics at the Bots IQ event. A whiz at programming, she won the YouCUBE program's annual LEGO robot contest in 2008. She volunteered as a Youth Specialist Assistant at the New Adventures summer camps for middle school students. Last spring, she helped middle school students in the after-school program at Jeannette's McKee Middle School build and program robots.

Through school, Alyssa completed a job shadowing experience with Animal, a Pittsburgh-based company which creates Taco Bell and the Happy Cow commercials. In Fall 2009, she attended a college preparation/Freshman seminar class at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg. She received an A+ in the class and received a certificate upon completion.

Alyssa is involved in her Church's youth group. Over the summer, Alyssa along with 5 other Church members attended the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America Youth Gathering 2009 in New Orleans. They re-built homes and cleaned up communities as well as had the opportunity to interact with youth from across the country.

The PIC Youth Staff congratulates Alyssa on her efforts and look forward to having her in the YouCUBE program this year.

Chris Barner Earns Eagle Scout

Chris BarnerCongratulations to PIC YouCUBE youth participant Chris Barner who earned the rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America on June 2, 2009. Chris has been an active youth participant sine June 2006. During this time, he has participated in the YouCUBE program as well as volunteered to be a Youth Specialist Assistant at the New Adventure summer camps for middle school youth.

Chris became an Eagle Scout after many years of service within the Boy Scouts. He started as a Cub Scout with Pack 297 in North Huntingdon. Then, he was a Boy Scout with Troop 251 in Irwin and with Troop 480 in Greensburg. It was with Troop 480 that Chris completed his Eagle project. Along with the Troop 480's help, Chris collected and supplied over 1,000 new and gently used books to families at the St. Vincent DePaul food pantry at Our Lady of Grace Church in Greensburg.

Currently, Chris is a senior at Norwin High School. He is a member of the Japanese Club. In April 2009, Chris along with other 3rd and 4th year Japanese-language students took a trip to Japan through their high school class. He is also active in soccer as a United States Soccer Federation certified referee and as a Norwin Soccer Club co-ed U19 league player.

After graduation, Chris would like to further his education and pursue a career either in robotics or as a video game designer. The PIC Youth Staff congratulates Chris on his efforts and looks forward to having him in the YouCUBE Program this year.
