OUR MISSION

PIC Youth and Fayette TV!!

December 28

The Private Industry Council of Westmoreland/Fayette, Inc. (PIC) is enhancing the focus of their Fayette Enrichment afterschool "Newspaper Club" to the realm of digital media by offering the newly formed "Digital Newspaper Club." This group will allow students to continue formulating the skills utilized in reporting such as writing, researching, and editing; while also offering exciting new skills in the ever growing and popular world of technology. With 128 students currently enrolled for the Winter session of the Fayette Enrichment program, the "Digital Newspaper Club" is an opportunity for these students to expand their horizons in terms of interviewing, time-management, teamwork, project-management, and employment skills.

The PIC is collaborating with Fayette Television to offer students the experience to videotape their interviews, edit those clips, and blend together stories to present a full-fledged newscast, which will be broadcast in Fayette County on Channel 77. These broadcasts will highlight events within all of the schools PIC is currently administering an afterschool program, (Albert Gallatin South Middle School; Brownsville High School and Middle School; Connellsville Junior High West; and Lafayette Junior High). The students' broadcast will be able to be seen on the PIC website after it airs and a print version will also be available.

The PIC Fayette Enrichment program is funded by the PA Department of Education through a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant. EITC monies donated this year to the Private Industry Council from PNC Bank, People's Gas, Philadelphia Insurance, UPMC, and Waste Management will also assist in supporting this "Digital Newspaper Club."
