PIC Awarded "LEARN" Grant
August 8, 2011
The Private Industry Council of Westmoreland/Fayette recently received a grant from the Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL) to fund the Fayette County Local Education and Resource Network (LEARN) Team. The Fayette County LEARN team, formerly known as the Community Engagement Group (CEG) will work diligently to become the catalyst which connects families to Early Learning Opportunities. The Fayette County LEARN Team has the goals of:
- Effectively communicating and engaging families by:
- Assisting families to act as their child’s first educator, with information about child development and appropriate early learning activities, aligned with the early learning standards;
- Helping families make good early learning choices for their children, while building family demand for quality early education; and
- Supporting families to take action on behalf of their children.
- Providing support to families with a child transitioning into an early learning setting and those with children entering kindergarten.
- Acting as a resource for early childhood education to promote OCDEL programs, such as Keystone STARS, PA Pre-K Counts, State Head Start Supplemental Program, Child Care Works, Early Intervention and Nurse Family Partnership through activities such as early learning events, early learning activities and/or other programs within the community which focus on quality early education programs and access to early learning opportunities.
If you are interested in becoming a member of the LEARN Team, or are a parent with a child transitioning from home into a child care center, PA Pre-K Counts, Head Start, or Kindergarten please contact René Despot at rdespot@privateindustrycouncil.com You can also look forward to seeing members of the LEARN Team at local events or the LEARN sponsored Family Movie Nights in Uniontown.
