Miracle League, Making Smiles!
November 8, 2011
One of the PIC Head Start fundraiser recipients this year was the Miracle League adaptive baseball program for children with disabilities. Through a basket raffle and
Friday jeans days, $300 was raised and donated to the league. Headed by Wilma King, Intermediate Unit 1 speech therapist, the program is run by volunteers and is dependent upon donations from members of the community.
On Saturday, October 8, 2011, a fundraising event for the league was held at the Bethel Baptist Church in Uniontown. This church has become involved in volunteering for the Miracle League, and wanted to make an extra effort to assist them in achieving their goal of having their own ball field.
Beautiful weather and well-planned events helped to make the day a success. Activities included chili and pie judging contests and a pie auction, and a silent auction. There were many games for children, and a concert by pianist George Hudak. More than $1300 was raised for the ball field.
