Head Start Museum of Art at the Mall

The Uniontown Mall recently played host to many of the county’s youngest artists. On April 20, 2011, Head Start/Early Head Start of Fayette County presented a “Museum of Art” in the walkways of the mall, using elaborately decorated tables to showcase artwork from each classroom and home-based area.

As in most museums, artwork was tastefully and carefully mounted and displayed. In addition, the experience for children was enhanced through the presence of artists who provided face painting, balloon animals, caricature sketches of people, and fantasy sketches.

Staff and management members were on hand to greet the public, as well as the many Head Start/Early Head Start families who came to view their children’s artwork. Children beamed proudly as they pointed out their creations to their parents. Parents enjoyed the opportunity to view the creativity of the program as a whole, as well as a chance to talk with other parents, and their children’s teachers.

The Private Industry Council of Westmoreland/Fayette, Inc., hopes to make the “Museum of Art” an annual event at the Uniontown Mall.
