Private Industry Council Awarded 21st Century Learning Center Grant
The Private Industry Council of Westmoreland/Fayette, Inc is pleased to announce that it has been selected as a recipient of 21st Century Community Learning Center (CCLC) grant funds through the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The annual award of $251,012 is to support the program for a three-year funding cycle, subject to continued availability of funds. The Pennsylvania Department of Education is awarding more than $18 million in federal grants to support 58 new sites through the 21st Century Community Learning Centers program.
The 21st CCLC program provides funding for the establishment of community learning centers to provide academic, artistic, and cultural enhancement activities to students and their families when school is not in session (before school, after school, and/or during holidays and summer). The primary goal of these centers is to assist students to meet state and local standards for core subjects, such as reading and mathematics, by providing them with academic enrichment opportunities.
PIC's program will operate in Fayette County, in conjunction with Brownsville and Connellsville Area School Districts. Other partners include TAME, Inc./DARE2XL; Uniontown and Carnegie Free Libraries; and Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus.
