CAPPSS
Core Academic Preparation & Professional Soft Skills -

Ages 17-21
Following Your Dreams

This program is targeted to individuals who have withdrawn from High School or graduated but are not fully employed or enrolled in post-secondary education.

CAPPSS consists of career and vocational assessment using Keys2Work and the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE).

CAPPSS also provides counseling, paid work experience, GED classes (if needed), computer skills training, job search skills, drivers education (if needed), and supportive services.

The program is designed to improve each youth's basic skills and job readiness so that they may attain meaningful employment. Workshops conducted at the CareerLinks provide these skills.

Once accepted into the program, you will be paid a stipend (maximum of $15 a day, tax free) for their attendance in any approved activity (GED class, Driver's Ed, CareerLink Workshop, etc.) and minimum wage if they are put into a work experience. A maximum of 6 months is set if you are placed in a work experience. We currently have youth working at the Monessen Recreation Dept. and the Monessen Library. We will also provide consistent, long-term follow-up support services after employment is obtained.

After the Core is complete, participants are encouraged to pursue one of the five vocational/educational options: unsubsidized employment, subsidized employment, paid work experience, enrollment in to post-scondary education, or enrollment into military service.
