DADS MATTER AWARDED $3,000 WORTH OF RESOURCE MATERIAL

Dads Matter of Fayette County, a project of the Private Industry Council of Westmoreland/Fayette, Inc. (PIC), is pleased to announce that it is the recipient of a grant award valued at approximately $3,000 from the National Fatherhood Initiative. The grant award is for parenting education and resource materials which will enable the Dads Matter project to expand the educational services offered to participants through informative brochures, curriculum materials and activities, and computer based interactive education.

The National Fatherhood Initiative's mission is to improve the well being of children by increasing the proportion of children growing up with involved, responsible, and committed fathers. Since 1994, National Fatherhood Initiative has done so by:

  • Educating and inspiring all Americans-especially fathers-through public awareness campaigns, careful research, and providing other resources;
  • Equipping and developing leaders of national, state, and community fatherhood initiatives through curricula, training, and technical assistance; and
  • Engaging every sector of society through strategic alliances and partnerships

The Dads Matter of Fayette County office, located at 480 Coolspring Road in Uniontown, works to reach all fathers in the county by helping them overcome barriers that often prohibit them from being effective and nurturing parents and enabling them to improve their relationships with their children and improve their parenting skills. Parenting discussion groups and educational sessions are held each Monday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. Additional sessions can be scheduled throughout the community at convenient locations and times for the participants.

Funding for Dads Matter was provided by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, Grant: 90FR0075/01.
