Family Literacy Nights Fly with
Caterpillars to Butterflies

On October 11th, families visited the Greensburg PIC office for another night of family literacy activities, with a theme of Caterpillars to Butterflies. All children participated in a related craft of finger-painting caterpillars or creating clothespin butterflies with painted wings. Parents either helped their children with the craft or built a butterfly puzzle for use at home. After the crafts, families listened to a presentation by Bug Lady Marci Beal. Ms. Beal, an insect expert from 4-H's Bug Club, brought interesting insect facts and life-cycle posters to the attentive crowd. As the night came to an end, everyone enjoyed a healthy snack of fruit and dip. Before leaving, all families received a complimentary copy of the picture book Who Lives in the Garden?

PIC's Family Literacy Program holds free themed events for families every month. The final event for the month of October will be a Jack-O Lantern Party from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on October 26th. Family Literacy Nights incorporate storytelling, child-centered activities, and snacks into a free event every member of the family can enjoy. After the night of learning and entertainment, all families receive a complimentary copy of that night's featured reading to take home and enjoy again. Please call Melody at (724) 836-2600, extension 218 to sign up for the next activity.
