Family Literacy Program
Are you looking for activities that will encourage your family to explore and experiment? The Family Literacy Program addresses the educational needs of the "entire family." It teaches families to work together to promote life-long learning. The program is free and available to families with children from birth to third grade.
The following four Family Literacy components promote life-long family learning:
Customized Parent Education Workshops address family issues such as nutrition, discipline, divorce, finances, etc. The instructors serve as a resource for the parents.
Adult Education Classes prepare students for GED testing; refresher classes prepare students to start post-secondary education or for employer testing.
Interactive Literacy Activities (ILA) provide parents with the opportunity to spend quality educational time with their child. The program includes partnerships with various groups and libraries. Each child or family is given a free book for their home library at the end of each activity.
Early Childhood Education provides age appropriate assessments on developmental fine and gross motor skills, cognitive, language, social-emotional, and self-help instructions for young children. Based on the child's assessment results, parents are given information they can use to play and work with their children to help improve the child's skills.
