Family Literacy Participates in Local Events
Staff from the Private Industry Council of Westmoreland/Fayette, Inc. (PIC)'s Family Literacy Program recently participated in two family-centered community events.

On August 11, Family Literacy joined the Greensburg-Hempfield Library and the community in celebrating another successful Summer Reading Program. The Library's event at St Clair Park hosted local children's agencies and provided craft-making for the children and organizational information for the parents. PIC Family Literacy staff made foam sun visors, personalized with each child's name, and saw over 400 children.

Family Literacy also took part in an Ice Cream Blast on July 22. The event, sponsored by ParentWise, brought the community's children and local agencies together at the Kirk Nevin Center for a day of crafts, prizes, and agency information. PIC's Family Literacy Program staff saw over 200 families, and again helped in making personalized foam sun visors for each child.

Family Literacy is a program that believes parents are their children's first teachers, and play an important part throughout their children's education. PIC's Family Literacy program aids parents in creating better educated children, and focuses on children ages birth through age 8. Please call Melody at (724) 836-2600 for more information.
