GED IMPACT CLASS AT PRIVATE INDUSTRY COUNCIL

The Private Industry Council of Westmoreland/Fayette, Inc. (PIC) is pleased to announce that it has been selected as a recipient of Adult Education Impact Grant funds from the PA Department of Education Bureau of Adult Basic and Literacy Education.

Beginning December 3, the GED Impact class will be offered in PIC's Greensburg location. This free class gives students the skills and confidence needed to take the GED test in only 10 weeks. Like traditional GED classes, PIC's GED Impact class is taught by a PA certified teacher and covers the reading, math, and writing sections of the GED test. What makes the GED Impact class different is the student's educational experience is enhanced by using authentic materials that reinforce the context and help the student make connections between classroom learning and real-life applications. Enrolled students receive personal GED study books at no charge and may qualify for a free official GED test!

Interested people must first complete a free skills assessment, and commit to the entire 10 week course. The official GED test will be given to those individuals ready for the exam at the end of the 10 week period.

According to Tami Ozegovich, Adult Education Program Supervisor for PIC, "With this new program students will explore opportunities beyond the GED. Students will not only develop skills needed for the actual GED test, but will use the skills they learn to develop and implement a class project - giving them practical experience."

Regarding the new GED Impact class, Tim Yurcisin, PIC President, said, "These funds and the implementation of this program will better equip us to develop our adult education student's capacities and help them make the critical transition from education to employment."
