MANUFACTURING CAREER EXPLORATION
  • The Manufacturing Career Exploration Program will engage participating youth in activities that will demonstrate the diverse, high skill careers that exist in the manufacturing industry and provide participants with the opportunity to develop and demonstrate personal skills in communication, teamwork and problem solving.

  • The program will involve summer classroom training and activities as well as school year follow up to include additional training and activities. There will also be an opportunity to participate in Battlebots IQ, which is a competition of student designed and student built robots.

  • The summer component of the program, that is supported by Westmoreland/Fayette Workforce Investment Board, will begin with training and orientation to the manufacturing industry facilitated by local individuals with experience in education, training and manufacturing. The participants will also build LEGO robots and program them to move using computer software. (pictures of LEGO activity here) Several industry tours and presentations will be given throughout their 5 weeks in the program. These activities will be conducted at the PIC corporate offices located in Greensburg. Transportation to this site is the responsibility of the participant.
  • All students will participate in Keys2Work, as well as attend Careers Under Construction day at Westmoreland County Community College (WCCC)
  • 2006-2007 Students Showcase
As part of the 2006-2007 Manufacturing Career Exploration Program (MCEP), the youth worked together to create a video and a website about the program. The video showcases the tours and activities they participated in during June 2006. The youth hope use the website and their video to promote the program and to help us recruit more participants for the 2007-2008 MCEP. Greensburg-Salem Senior and Sophomore Barry Dunmire and Alyssa LeCuyer took the lead on this project.
