Private Industry Council Receives Grant from Target for Literacy Night

Greensburg, PA- The Private Industry Council of Westmoreland/Fayette, Inc. (PIC), is pleased to announce that it has received a $2,100 grant from Target for a childhood literacy night program. The literacy night project is a childhood literacy program that will serve children up to the age of twelve. This project is an extension of the Summer Reading Program that PIC currently operates during the summer months. The monthly literacy night, which extends for a nine-month period during the school year, includes activities such as storytelling and related literacy activities, role play activities, an arts and crafts activity, and a healthful snack. Each literacy night every child will also be given an age-appropriate book that is related to that evening's story to take home to begin a library of their own. This initiative is also an effort to assist in ensuring student success with learning, consistent with the No Child Left Behind federal legislation.

The grant is a part of the ongoing support Target provides to local communities throughout the country. Every week Target gives more than $2 million to strengthen families and communities across the nation, with a focus on education, the arts, social services, and other vital community partnerships.

"At Target, we are making a real difference every day through our grant making programs," said Laysha Ward, Vice President, Community Relations, Target. "We're proud to partner with the Private Industry Council as part of our ongoing commitment to give back to the communities where our guests and team members live and work."

Additionally, Target also gives back through signature programs that are designed to inspire learning in children and families.
